Where Am I?

My Expat-terns

69. When in doubt, go out. You never know who you’ll run into … cough … celebrities … cough … it happened … cough …
74. For some reason, socks and sandals are an acceptable fashion choice in the Czech Republic. Just accept it.
98. Halloween is sadly not accepted by everyone. It is a very culturally relative holiday.
35. The Québécois dialect has its own unique beauty. This is difficult for some to accept.
111. This may sound grim, but if you ever are lucky enough to observe a minor car “accident” in Israel, just enjoy what unfolds as fifteen people who did not see what happened come up to explain what they saw.
44. Try to save travel money. Always have that in mind because funds are essential. Do you really need that other thing right now or can you put your wallet away for when you are in Croatia? Your choice.
75. If you as a citizen of the United States are often abroad during important national holidays, I recommend doing very American activities to compensate for your utter lack of patriotism. Nothing obnoxious of course, but why not spend a little time at Starbucks on the 4th of July in Prague or buy something online you definitely do not need on Labor Day in Taiwan? Very American.
32. Eventually all the men in hostels start to look the same to you. They are all of medium height, moderate levels of scruffy attractiveness, and speak with a semi-interesting/sexy accent. A similar comparison can be said about the women; however, the female variety often showers more and does not have five o’clock shadows.
21. When you get a new map, always mark where your home is. Even if it’s off the grid, keep it in mind. Sometimes you forget.
87. In the Frankfurt airport (maybe in all German airports), you do not need a boarding pass to go through security. You receive it afterwards. This can save you some time if you are confused and late for your plane.
