Puget. Pike Place. Perfect: First Impressions

Pike Place is the place to be in the Northwest. In one word, it is fresh. Fresh food, fun people, and new, local art in every medium all seem to migrate to this spot along the ocean, lake, sound?

Pike Place Market, the heartbeat of Seattle, boasts fish throwers, fancy, local seafood restaurants, the first Starbucks ever, local artisans, a waterfront view, and Native American influences out the wazoo all on a multi-level plaza. (Photo credits by PintsizedPioneer)

I am still not really sure which body of water is exactly situated next to it. There is so much water in Seattle; I’m pretty confused. Nevertheless it’s pretty. *I’m thinking it’s the Puget Sound, but who knows? Well, the residents probably do.

The scene is crazy! There is so much diversity, so many random, specialty shops, and the seafood is flying, literally. The famous fish throwers are located here and live up to their name.

I’ve never seen a more goofy group of fishmongers. The produce is great as well. Native spices, honeys, mushrooms, and much more abound. One of the best parts is the free samples. Try some apple, a little honey, and then some salmon jerky all in a row.

Shops start to close at about 5 pm, so it’s a perfect place to spend an afternoon and then an early dinner.

Off to Tacoma! I am seeing a school about an hour down from Seattle in the morning and then am coming back to the big city for another college visit. Oy vey! It is going to be a busy day. Hopefully I’ll see some more sights and try some more food. Pacific Northwest cuisine is so great! The shellfish is superb. So superb.
