Where Am I?

My Expat-terns

43. Remember clothing sizes vary in different regions of the world. A large in Ecuador is not a large from the USA …
77. Not all hostels are created equal. This goes the same for your roommates. (See #70)
13. You and your host family should try to learn from each other. That means you both have to be open minded.
5. A fried egg on top makes any food better!
47. Cherish every moment before a long journey. Savor every amenity you possess, but also get drunk on the excitement that is about to unfold. The intoxication of the pre-adventure process is so joyous.
119. You really should watch your belongings in Greece. Pickpocketing is no joke.
71. Nothing is more refreshing than a little flirting on the sidewalk with a new friend after a long night of dancing even if you get a bit lost in translation; that’s the cute part.
22. Always be respectful to foreign languages. Don’t complain that they’re weird to grasp or understand. Foreign languages can be quite spiteful and they will make themselves even harder to learn if you do so. They just want to be accepted for what they are. They won’t be anything else.
92. Do not let your ethno/national-centrism get the best of you. For example, Canadians do celebrate Thanksgiving; it is just in October, not November. If you go to the store Thanksgiving weekend thinking it will be a normal shopping spree, you will be punished for your ignorance when you cannot find any goddamn pecans or rosemary.
7. Dogs are relatively the same around the world – all they want is a belly rub.
